Project Cases

DIN 1.2358 /60CrMoV18-5 Cold Worked Tool Steel

Superior Abrasion Resistance
DIN 1.2358’s high chromium content (10.50-12.00%) forms chromium carbides, delivering 30% higher wear resistance than conventional steels like O1. This makes it ideal for shear blades and blanking dies subjected to heavy abrasive loads.
Precision Heat Treatment
The steel’s oil or air quenching process achieves uniform hardness with minimal distortion (<0.05%). Double tempering further stabilizes dimensions, critical for precision tools like thread-rolling dies.
Broad Industrial Adaptability
From automotive stamping tools to plastic injection molds, DIN 1.2358 adapts to diverse applications. Its thermal stability (up to 500°C) and polishability enhance performance in both cold work and moderate high-temperature environments.

DIN 1.2358 / 60CrMoV18-5 Cold Worked Tool Steel

DIN 1.2358 Cold Worked Tool Steel

1.DIN 1.2358 Tool Steel Overview

DIN 1.2358 is a high-carbon, high-chromium cold work tool steel renowned for its exceptional hardness (60-64 HRC), wear resistance, and thermal stability. With a composition of 1.28-1.62% carbon and 10.50-12.00% chromium, it forms dense carbides that enhance durability in abrasive environments. Its optimized heat treatment process minimizes distortion, ensuring precision for complex tools like blanking dies and injection mold inserts. Widely used in automotive, aerospace, and manufacturing industries, DIN 1.2358 combines performance with cost-effectiveness, offering extended tool lifespan under extreme conditions.

5. DIN 1.2358 Tool Steel Heat Treatment

  • Annealing: Heat to 850-880°C, slow cool to ≤500°C. Final hardness: ≤229 HB.

  • Quenching: Oil or air cool from 950-970°C to achieve 60-64 HRC.

  • Tempering: Temper at 150-200°C for 1-2 hours. Double tempering recommended for stress relief and dimensional stability.

6. DIN 1.2358 Tool Steel Applications

DIN 1.2358 excels in high-wear and precision applications:

  • Cold Work Tools: Blanking dies, forming molds, and precision punches for sheet metal.

  • Cutting Tools: Shear blades, thread-rolling dies, and woodworking knives.

  • Plastic Molds: High-hardness inserts for injection molds requiring abrasion resistance.

  • Industrial Components: Wear plates, guide rails, and high-stress fixtures.

Why Choose DIN 1.2358?

  • 30% longer service life than conventional cold work steels (e.g., O1).

  • Minimal distortion during heat treatment ensures dimensional accuracy.

7. Key Advantages of DIN 1.2358 Steel

  1. Exceptional Wear Resistance: High chromium carbides (Cr₇C₃) provide superior resistance to abrasive and adhesive wear, ideal for high-load tooling.

  2. Thermal Stability & Toughness: Retains hardness up to 500°C and exhibits excellent impact resistance, suitable for cyclic thermal loads.

  3. Versatility: Adapts to both cold work (e.g., stamping dies) and plastic mold applications (e.g., injection molds).

8. Delivery condition

For hot forged or hot rolled bar, usually the delivery condition is hot forged or rolled, annealed, rough turned.

For hot forged plate, usually the delivery condition is hot forged, annealed, milled surface.

For hot rolled plate, usually the delivery condition is hot rolled, annealed, black surface.
